Police Officer at the Helm of a Gambling Operation

A District Police officer of Jefferson Park has been charged with running an illegal gambling parlor. Police said that is was being operated out of a business in the same neighborhood, where he patrolled regularly. Pioneerlocal.com reports:

Authorities said Richard Teresi, a 12-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, used a beauty shop at 5118N. Elson Ave. as a front for his operation, running card games and providing payout on video poker machines. Six other people were also arrested at the scene and charged with gambling; their names were not released.

Video Poker Rage Not Brought Down by State's Upcoming Lottery

When legislators approved the lottery in August, in Gaston County, they thought it would be a simple solution to the long-drawn problem of video poker in casinos. Closely regulated ticket sales would take place instead of the common illegal payouts of video poker, they thought. Pokermag.com reports:

Illegal Video Poker Operation Busted in Toccoa

Cops confiscated Video Poker machines, on Tuesday, in Toccoa. The State passed a law banning these machines four years ago. However, they have slowly begun making their way back into the game rooms. One of the customers informed the police of these machines. This led to the confiscation of the machines. Police reports, that some gamblers were getting money from the machines. Others say, that they were redeeming merchandise. Any way, it is illegal and the law does not permit it. In all seven machines were being used there. Wneg32.com reports:

Now officers are confiscating the money and putting the games in a safe place for evidence. Depending on what the courts say, the buck could stop here for these machines.

Maximum Money Givenby Video Poker Industry, for Campaign Contribution

One of the top recipients among state officials, is House Speaker, Jim Black; with regard to video poker industry money. An analysis of the campaign contribution records showed this, as released on Monday, by the Democracy North Carolina. Newsobserver.com reports:

Decker received $11,500 from industry-related donors, including $8,000 on Feb. 5, 2003, the day Black was elected co-speaker of the coalition, said Bob Hall, research director for the nonprofit government watchdog. The $8,000 was among $30,000 in campaign gifts Decker received from Black supporters on or near the co-speaker vote, Hall said.

Judge Permits Opening up of Video Poker for Catawbas

According to a judgment on Tuesday, the Catawba Indian Nation can open a video poker operation . Catawba leaders however, will give up this right, if the state legislators permit the tribe to start a high-stakes electronic bingo operation in Orangeburg County. Heraldonline.com reports:

If legislators don't agree, the tribe will exercise its right to bring video poker to the York County reservation, Bender said. But nothing will happen before the General Assembly reconvenes, Jan. 10, he said.
