Proposal Allowing Keno in Illinois Bars, Questioned by Legislators

Legislators have raised questions, with regard to a proposal. As per this proposal, keno would be allowed in Illinois bars. Gov. Rod Blagojevich formulated a plan that would fund school construction. The funds would be raised through bonds bought with money resulting from keno. This proposal is one among a three-part program. It is directed towards the improvement of roads, mass transit and school construction. Legislators questioned whether  keno, a bingo-like game was an extension of the lottery or gambling. They felt that allowing keno to be played was similar to a convenience store that sells lottery tickets. Mywebtimes.com reports:

The Rev. Tom Grey, executive director of the National Coalition Against Gambling Expansion, said people who treat gambling addicts have called keno the "crack-cocaine" of gambling. He said allowing keno in Illinois is bring "Las Vegas-style" gambling and will eventually lead to video poker and video slots.
